Hi there! I’m Tegan Tsubouchi, owner and clinical psychotherapist here at Sakura Counselling. I was born and raised in Thunder Bay and completed all my education at Lakehead University. I have a passion for mental health and hope I can help make a positive difference in your life.

As someone who struggles with anxiety and ADHD I understand how it can be overwhelming to try something new, especially therapy. My goal is to make sure you feel comfortable and safe in the therapeutic setting where we can collaboratively work together towards your goals in a non-judgmental space. I want to hear your voice and how your journey has shaped and influenced you today. Accessing support is a great step towards taking care of yourself by giving yourself the chance to learn new skills on how you can improve your stressors and struggles.

In my practice I will use a variety of therapeutic interventions. Depending on presenting needs, each treatment plan will be tailored to each individual. I have experience working with children, adolescents, adults, couples and families with a variety of presenting issues including anxiety and mood disorders, ADHD, trauma, relationship dynamics, self-harm and suicidal ideation. One of my strongest passions is working with those that are struggling with suicidal thoughts and self-harm. I strongly believe having a connection and someone to speak to can make a big difference.

I am always looking to grow my knowledge and learn from others, both in my career and personal life. I am an animal lover and spend my most of my free time with my dogs, Mushu & Makwa.

If you feel like I would be a good fit for you, I would be happy to meet and work with you!

Theoretical Approach: CBT, TF-CBT, CPT, DBT, NET, Gottman Level 1 and 2, trauma-focused & client-centred

What does sakura mean?

Sakura, the Japanese cherry blossom, symbolizes renewal, resilience, and the quiet strength found in new beginnings. Each spring, cherry blossoms bloom after the harshness of winter. I believe healing follows a similar path. Even after life’s most challenging times, growth is possible. With compassion, understanding, and evidence-based practices, I help individuals rediscover their inner strength and move toward meaningful change.
